Over the past few months we have been lucky enough to be able to attend several conventions including UK Games Expo, Berlin Con and Gen Con. Spiel Essen is also just around the corner.
So here's our conclusion. They are all as interesting as they are exhausting. And the community is great at all of them. People are tolerant, friendly, diverse, interested and interesting. So are the Conventions all the same? No.
What are the differences?
For us, the main difference between Spiel Essen and the others was: Spiel is bigger, of course, lots of stands, lots of new games to discover and buy. If that's what you want, it's fantastic. On the other hand, both Gen Con and UK Games Expo felt like a bigger experience to us. More different things to see, more areas to play in or just hang out with other gamers. Cosplay, music, Cardhalla... Gen Con has RPG and board game rooms everywhere, even in the surrounding hotels, and a huge football stadium where you can play on the pitch. It was impressive, but also quite relaxed to hang out.
UKGE was similar, but a bit smaller and without the football.
Berlin Con is still quite small, but had a nice vibe and play areas too.

So they were all great, but different. And we cannot emphasize enough how amazing the community is all over the world. ❤️ Thank you all for the fantastic time.
